History

The Department of Tourism Management started its education activities at the undergraduate level within the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Sakarya University in 2001-2002 academic year. Between 2011-2016, it continued its education activities within the Faculty of Business Administration. Since 2016, it has continued its education and internship activities within the newly established Faculty of Tourism. Currently, it continues its activities within the Faculty of Tourism of Sakarya University of Applied Sciences, which was established in 2018. The department has produced approximately 1700 graduates in 20 years. Our graduates mainly work in Istanbul and Marmara region in different positions such as staff, chef, department manager, general manager. The department was accredited by the Tourism Education Evaluation and Accreditation Board in 2020 and registered its quality.

At the graduate level, the Department of Tourism Management, which was established under the Department of Business Administration of the Institute of Social Sciences, first started accepting both thesis and non-thesis graduate students in the 1998-1999 academic year. Later, in 2002, the Department of Tourism Management Institute was established. Since 2010, it has started to accept doctoral students. Our department was affiliated to Sakarya University of Applied Sciences Graduate Education Institute established in 2018. The department has graduated 70 doctor of science and 250 science specialists in 23 years. Most of our graduates continue their academic activities as research assistants, lecturers and faculty members in various universities in Turkey.
